Description of the Snorkeling and Hiking in Cahuita Coral Reef and National Park Tour

The snorkeling tour is an ecological and biological way to explore the coral reef of Cahuita National Park lining the coastline and more particularly Punta Cahuita. The park was established in 1978 and is the only national park in Costa Rica to rely only on donations since then. Donations received are invested to keep the park in good condition, free of litters, and to maintain the safety of the wildlife and visitors. The coral reef hosts over 240 marine species including tropical fish, mollusks, nurse sharks, lobsters, sting rays, barracudas, lion fish and more. You will be guided by professional guides to observe all mentioned wildlife.

After snorkeling, you will stop at Punta Cahuita where you will have a rest and you will observe a paradise scenery while enjoying some fruits and water before starting the hike. Your guide, a Cahuita native and naturalist, will take the time to explain the natural healing capabilities of various plants while sharing knowledge of the wildlife along the trail through the tropical forest and along Playa Blanca (White Sand Beach). You may see and hear a variety of fauna along the trail such as Howler and Capuchin monkeys, Two-Fingered and Three-Fingered Sloths, a variety of snakes, lizards, iguanas, mapaches, birds and crabs. Watch out for the yellow eyelash viper, a beautiful yellow colored snake that is very poisonous and the Capuchin monkeys who have no problem snatching people’s bags in search of food. Finally you will arrive at the park’s entrance.

Snorkeling depends on the weather and water conditions checked every day.
