Descritption of the Bribri Indigenous Tour

The tour begins crossing a hanging bridge to visit the house of Don Silverio (Psokorpa or the wise elder). You will hike through a beautiful Cacao plantation, see a demonstration of cacao paste processing using pre Colombian tools, and you will learn about medicinal plants. During this visit you also meet the five generation family of Don Silverio, who is considered the oldest man in Costa Rica, 110 years (according to his family).

You will learn how they grow and harvest their food, how they cook and how they built their homes using organic materials found in the surrounding forest. In a small tour that we make around the house we will see the variety of fruit trees and medicinal plants, as well as the prehistoric survival items they use. Within this tour you witness a demonstration of the organic chocolate making process that has been passed down from generation to generation for nearly 300 years.

The next stop is at an “Usure Ceremonial House” where a healer (Shaman or Awapa) explains how he uses medicinal plants, rituals and chants for spiritual healing.

Depending on the weather conditions, we visit an exotic waterfall in BriBri where red venomous frogs can be found.
