Description of the 21 days/20 nights Costa Rica, Panama Group Travel Package

Three weeks trip from volcanic central Costa Rica to the best beaches of the Caribbean, visiting Bocas del Toro islands and the San Blas indigenous territory. Biding farwel after seeing the canal in UNESCO World heritage cosmopolitan Panama City.

Itinerary

Day 1: Alajuela (San Jose, Costa Rica)
Pick up Juan Santamaría International Airport, transfer to Alajuela. 2 nights in a hotel with all comfort (Hotel Buena Vista or similar
www.hotelbuenavistacr.com).

Day 2: Alajuela, Poas Volcano
8am Poas Volcano National Park (entrance fees and local guide not included). 2-3pm Visit of a coffee plantation/coffee shop. Night in the hotel in Alajuela.

Day 3, 4, 5: Corcovado National Park, Osa Peninsula
Transfer to Sierpe (7 hours aprox.), 30 min stop on the Tarcoles Bridge to observe crocodiles and one more stop on the way in Manuel Antonio or Dominical. Boat transfer from Sierpe harbor (1h30 aprox.) on the canals and through the mangrove of the Sierpe River and on the ocean along the Drake Bay shore. 4 day and 3 nights package in Corcovado including 3 nights in seafront cabins, 3 daily meals, Corcovado National Park tour (nature observation and hiking), Caño Island tour (snorkeling, dolphin watching), entrance fees and local guides. 3 nights in a resort (Poor Man’s Paradise Resort www.poormansparadiseresort.com).

Day 6: Corcovado, Monteverde
Boat transfer from Corcovado to Sierpe harbor. Land transfer from Sierpe to Palmar Sur Airport, then flight to San José, Tobias Bolaños Airport (departure at 10:30am, arrival time at 11:30am aprox). Transfer to Monteverde (4 hours aprox.). 2 nights in in a hotel with all comfort (Hotel Poco a Poco or similar, www.hotelpocoapoco.com).

Day 7: Monteverde
All day optional activities in Monteverde (entrance fees and local guide not included) such as: Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, Orchid garden, Sky Trek/Canopy, Sky Tram, Sky Walk, horseback riding, etc. Night in the hotel in Monteverde.

Day 8: Monteverde, La Fortuna, Arenal Volcano
Morning optional activities in Monteverde (entrance fees and local guide not included): Frog garden, Cheese farm. Departure to La Fortuna. Afternoon visit of Baldi Hot Springs in La Fortuna (entrance fees not included). 2 nights in a hotel with all comfort (Hotel Los Lagos or similar, www.hotelloslagos.com).

Day 9: La Fortuna, Arenal Volcano
All day optional activities in La Fortuna area (entrance fees not included): Arenal Volcano National Park (local guide not included), Hanging Bridges, La Fortuna Waterfall, Hike to Cerro Chato (local guide not included), superman swing, horseback riding, white water rafting, etc. Night in the hotel in La Fortuna.

Day 10: La Fortuna, Tortuguero
Departure to Tortuguero. Stop in Las Palmitas Restaurant for lunch (not included). Private boat transfer from La Pavona to Tortuguero Los Almendros harbor. 2 nights in a hotel (Hotel Miss Junie’s or similar, www.iguanaverdetours.com/lodge.htm)

Day 11: Tortuguero National Park
All day optional activities in Tortuguero National Park (entrance fees and local guide not included): morning water canals canoe tour, Tortuguero National Park Hike or Cerro Tortuguero Hike, nocturnal walk. Night in the hotel in Tortuguero.

Day 12: Tortuguero, Moin, Puerto Limon, Cahuita
Departure to Cahuita. Guided private boat ride from Tortuguero Los Almendros harbor to Moin. Stop on the way to Cahuita in Puerto Limón historical downtown. Land transportation from Moin to Cahuita. Arrival in the afternoon. 2 nights in a hotel in Cahuita (Hotel Suizo Loco or similar, www.suizolocolodge.com).

Day 13: Cahuita
All day optional activities in Cahuita area (entrance fees and local guide not included): snorkeling and hike in Cahuita National Park and Coral Reef combo, Bribri Indigenous Chocolate Tour. Night in the hotel in Cahuita.

Day 14: Cahuita, Bocas del Toro Islands, Panama
Departure to Panama’s border, land transfer from Cahuita to Sixaola border town (1 hour aprox.). Assistance in customs formalities. Land transfer from Sixaola to Almirante harbor (1 hour aprox.). Speed boat transfer from Almirante harbor to Bocas del Toro Islands, Colon Island, Bocas Town (30 min. aprox.). Free afternoon to enjoy walking or biking the liveliness of Bocas Town, its numerous shops, restaurants and bars on the water and its colorful houses, or to relax on one of the beaches of Colón Island. 2 nights in a hotel in Bocas town, Colon Island (Gran Hotel Bahía or similar, ghbahia.com)

Day 15: Bocas del Toro Islands, Panama
All day optional boat tour through Bocas del Toro Islands (entrance fees and local guide not included): Option 1 – dolphin watching in Dolphin Bay, snorkeling in Coral Kay, Zapatillas Cays, Option 2 – Dolphin Bay, Coral Cay, Red Frog Beach National Park, Option 3 – Bastimentos Island. Night in the hotel in Bocas town, Colon Island.

Day 16: Bocas del Toro Islands, Panama
Free day to relax on the beautiful beaches of Colón Island (Stars Beach, Boca del Drago, Bluff Beach), to go to explore by boat other islands or scuba diving in the clear waters of the archipelago.

Day 17: Bocas del Toro, San Blas Islands, Kuna Yala Indigenous Territory, Panama
Transfer to Bocas Town Airport, flight to Panama City, Albrook Airport (departure time: 7:45am, arrival time: 8:45am aprox.). Land (4×4) and boat transfer to San Blas Islands (3-4 hours aprox.). 3 nights in traditional rustic cabins on the beach (shared cabin and bathroom on Narasgandup, Lemon-island or similar, www.sanblaskunayala.com).

Day, 18, 19: San Blas Islands, Kuna Yala Indigenous Territory, Panama
4 day and 3 night package in San Blas, Kuna Yala Islands: 3 nights in traditional rustic cabins on the beach (shared cabin and bathroom), 3 daily meals, tours and activities (fishing, snorkeling, tours to neighboring islands and indigenous communities).
Immersion in the Kuna Indigenous territory, a model of environment conservation giving that the Kunas’ culture is based on the Great Mother, the land as guardian of all that exists. Beyond its paradisiac sceneries of white sand beaches and clear water making an ideal place for snorkeling, fishing, sailing, rowing on dugout canoe, they have preserved interesting and striking traditions, in particular those concerning the women, the traditional dress handmade of colourful “molas” and jewels, local dances and celebrations, the coconut trade. The territory is not totally open to the “Wagas” (non-Kuna persons). Each island belongs to a family who decided to open to visitors or not providing an ecological and sustainable tourism.

Day 20: Kuna Yala, Panama City
Morning boat and land (4×4) transfer to Panama City. Free afternoon to enjoy the attractions and the contrasts of the capital, through modern and colonial buildings, to go for a walk in the Old Town “Casco Viejo” listed in the UNESCO World Heritage, to go shopping, to relax in the green areas of the coastal strip. Night in a hotel in downtown Panama City.

Day 21: Panama City
Departure to Tocumen International Airport, Panama City.
