During the York in Indigenous community tour, you will experience a truly unforgettable visit to a native village of the Bribri in the heart of the Talamanca Mountains. York in village is situated along the pristine and undeveloped York in River. The river runs between Panama and Costa into the International La Amistad Park. Visitors will have the privilege of seeing a Costa Rica that few have experienced.

Description of the Yorkín Indigenous Community 2 Days Tour

Once having arrived upstream in a dugout canoe which is an incredible experience itself you will be picked up by your gracious and knowledgeable host who will guide you through primary forests, let you sample their native foods, show and demonstrate the uses of various food and medicinal plants from the surrounding forest as well as other native practices and knowledge like cacao. Upon arrival a delicious typical lunch is prepared for you.

Another delight to be discovered in this jungle area is the crystalline waters of the York in River and its tributaries allowing the visitor to enjoy a refreshing wilderness swim. After an exhausting day full of new impressions you get to sleep in a traditional cabaña. A cottage made of bamboo and banana leafs.

This native run eco-tourism operation avoids forest destruction and encourages the new generation of Bribri to develop a sense of conservation and an appreciation of their endangered culture and the rational use of their environment.
